Just a schoolboy fantasy

At the end of her life Christine is said to have be estranged from her children from two marriages and to be reclusive.  If true it's sad because if I could ever have been said to have had a crush on any young woman who I didn't actually know, it was on her.

That is, unless I count jealousy of that old bloke, film director Roger Vadim for his various young wives, including Brigitte Bardot, Jane Fonda and that Swedish bird in between. Of course that was not realistic.  They were all a little too old for me at the time.

But Christine was close to my own age.  Mandy Rice-Davies was even closer to my age.

My fantasies were of course just that.  They would have eaten me alive.

I wished!

The chair has been made famous by these photographs.  It now has pride of place in a contemporary exhibit at London's Victoria and Albert Museum.

Christine became morbidly overweight and was suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. She died in London on 5 December 2017, aged 75.

The U-2 Incident

In 1960 the Russians shot down an American U-2 spy plane that was overflying and photographing their military bases.  The U-2 Incident was big news when I was in High School and I remember it quite clearly.

The Incident forms the background to Bridge of Spies a 2015 movie, directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Tom Hanks and Mark Rylance from a screenplay written by Matt Charman together with Ethan and Joel Coen that centres on these true events.

Spielberg and the Cohen Brothers.  Who could miss it?

The Origin of Life - according to God

Back in April 2013 I had another visit from our neighbourhood Jehovah's Witnesses,  a pretty young woman and her husband, recently married.   Like Daniel (mentioned elsewhere on this website) before them, they had brought copies of The Watchtower and Awake; which I agreed to read if they were prepared to read my paper: The Prospect of Eternal Life.

I keep a couple of copies of The Prospect of Eternal Life for just such occasions and have also given a copy to the local Anglican minister and to various other active proselytisers in the area; with similar conditions.  Of course I know it will not change their position but I do like to have the debate and amazingly so do they; it beats the usual reception they get; and they get some practice in trying to convert un-believers.

When the couple asked my position I quickly summarised that in The Prospect of Eternal Life
